Things I will appreciate more when I come home

These are things which I took for granted. Most of them I am fine without, although I feel the absence of the first very keenly, but I will be more grateful when I have them again when I get back. I think what I am stumbling towards saying is that this is not a list of moans - it is a good thing to realise how lucky I am and wonder what I used to moan on and on about.

  1. My lovely amusing friends and family
  2. Drinkable water from a tap
  3. Hot water from a tap
  4. Fillets and steaks of meat and fish (rather than skinny bony meat)
  5. Buses where are you not very likely to die if there is a crash
  6. No killer moskweets
  7. Being clean all day
  8. Speaking English as a first language
  9. Being able to change my life if I want to
  10. Living in a house with floors and a carpet and lots of room
  11. My washing machine (NB the nuns do the washing up so I am not mourning my dishwasher)
  12. Beeeg shops that sell many items!
  13. Radio 4
  14. Not being stared at
  15. Fast internet connections
  16. Unbroken electricity supply

I can see that this is going to become part of my Monday morning ritual - reading the 'Carter Out of Africa' blog. Surprised to see Pinot Grigio not in the list of things to miss?

and besides, they're only staring at you because they're thinking 'corblimey, is that Julianne Moore...'

Good point! I can't believe I forgot to mention wine. I think it's because I just don't even see it here, so I don't crave it so much.
If you could see me hot and dirty, with hair stiff with dust, I think Julianne Moore would be far from your thoughts.
